LEHIGH COUNTY, PA
Lehigh County is a county in the eastern part of Pennsylvania. The 2000 US Census estimated the county's population at 312,090. The county seat is Allentown, Pennsylvania. Lehigh County was formed in 1812 when Northampton county was split into two counties. Lehigh County is named after the Lehigh River. It is part of the Great Appalachian Valley. The city was first known as Northampton but was later renamed Allentown in around 1836. Allentown was founded in 1762 by William Allen. The Lehigh Valley is a metropolitan region consisting of Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties along with Warren County on the western side of New Jersey. As of 2008, the Lehigh Valley has an estimated population of 808,210.
